Motivational Minute - Hope
“Hope springs eternal,” the old saying goes. People continue to hope even though they have evidence that things cannot possibly turn out the way they want. It is the ability to hope that makes us uniquely human.
It is hope that gives the cancer patient something to hang on to while enduring painful chemotherapy. Hope gives the spouse left at home something to believe for when his or her mate is serving in the military in a foreign land. Sometimes, when you reach the end of your rope, hope is all you have left – and it’s all you need. Hope can see you through life’s challenges.
Robert Fulghum, author of “All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten”, once said: “I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge. That myth is more potent than history. That dreams are more powerful than facts. That hope always triumphs over experience.”
For hope to work, you have to have something to hope in; there needs to be an objective basis for hope. For the Christian, our hope is in Christ. Because God is alive, because God is the Creator, because God is all-powerful, all-knowing, and all present - we have a solid basis for hope.
"But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." - Isaiah 40:31. If you need something to hope in, better yet, someONE to hope in, put your hope in the Lord.
In the famous "Love Chapter" (1 Corinthians 13), Paul concludes by asserting that three things remain forever and serve as lifelines for our relationship with God: Faith, Hope, and Love. Hope is your lifeline to God that keeps you focused and strong when life throws its challenges at you. Hang on to Hope!
