Motivational Minute - Despair

Motivational Minute - DespairOf all the negative emotions we deal with in life, despair is arguably the worst. Despair says, “Give up. There’s no hope. What’s the point; why bother, nothing will ever change.”

If we buy into despair, we lose sight of all the things that are right about life and we only see the bad. Temporary setbacks become insurmountable obstacles that block our way to life and happiness.

Despair isolates us from others and we feel alone. Feelings of helplessness and hopelessness can overwhelm us, leading us to the conclusion that life will never be good again. The truth is Despair is a lie. There is ALWAYS hope.

One of the greatest promises we have from God is found in the Bible: "I will never leave you or forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5). Hope becomes certainty when it is anchored in God's unchangeable promises. "I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord; "Plans to prosper you, not to harm to you - to give you a future and a hope" (Jeremiah 29:11).

Despair want to rob you life - it wants to keep you from seeing the hope available to you through the One who made you and loves you with an everlasting love.

Don’t give into despair. Life is worth living, and the sun will rise again for you. If you are struggling with despair, you are not alone. If you feel discouraged, reach out to someone you trust. Ask for help – it’s out there.
